It is an aggregation switch: fibre uplinks from access switches, server connections, or backhaul links terminate here. It runs dual operating systems. SwOS is a simple web interface for pure Layer 2 switching. RouterOS gives the full routing stack — VLANs, Layer 3, BGP, MPLS — at the cost of more configuration. You choose at boot, and switching between them is straightforward. The separate Gigabit port is for management, so the switch stays reachable independently of the SFP+ data ports. The chassis is dual-fan and rack-mounted; it is not a quiet device and belongs in a comms room rather than an office. SFP+ modules are sold separately.
