Overview

The Ubiquiti UISP Switch is a value-priced switche from Ubiquiti, available at Centrix Kuwait with full manufacturer warranty. The UISP Switch is an eight-port Gigabit PoE switch built for MicroPoP sites — the small aggregation points where a wireless ISP or a campus network gathers a handful of radios and powers them from one place. Eight RJ45 ports plus a 1G SFP uplink, fanless, with 110W of PoE to share. Read the PoE specification carefully, because it is not the usual one. This switch outputs 27V passive PoE at up to 30W per port. It is built to power Ubiquiti radios and airMAX gear, which expect exactly that. It is not an 802.3af/at switch. Standard PoE devices — most IP phones, third-party cameras, non-Ubiquiti access points — should not be connected expecting them to work, and passive PoE reaching a device that does not negotiate can damage hardware never built to receive it. If you need standard PoE, this is the wrong switch and an 802.3at model is what you want. Two more things worth knowing before it goes on a pole. Ubiquiti publish no IP rating for it, so despite the outdoor use case it belongs inside an enclosure — the UISP Box exists for precisely this and is sold separately. And the operating range stops at 50 degrees, below what an unshaded Kuwait cabinet reaches in summer, so shade and ventilation are not optional here.
